SHDT Continues with Bursary Scheme

SHDT is in the 2024/25 academic year continuing with the secondary school bursary scheme which has so far benefited around 50 students from various schools in the districts belonging to SHDT catchment area. The districts include Mangochi, Machinga, Balaka, Zomba, Phalombe, Mulanje, Thyolo, Chikwawa, Nsanje, Blantyre, Chiradzulu, Mwanza and Neno. Board Secretary Dr. Limbani Nsapato said in a statement that the scheme was launched in 2023 whereby 28 students benefited. Dr Nsapato also disclosed that in the 2024/25 academic year more students would benefit from the scheme.

The Board of Directors of SHDT introduced the bursary scheme to assist needy but bright students to pay their fees so that they finish their secondary education.

Chairperson of the Board Dr. Dan Namarika said at the launch ceremony held in march 2023 in Lunzu, Blantyre that the bursary initiative would contribute towards the government education policy objective of enhancing equitable access targeting the needy and vulnerable. The scheme is being financed by members of SHDT and other well wishers including individuals, companies and organisations.
